While a large part of the written history of the recliner begins in the early twentieth century, the recliner chair dates back much further. The earliest recliner chairs actually appeared in the late eighteenth century, and are functionally similar to the current deck chairs. The goal was always to allow the user to sit or lie back with your legs and feet of the floor.
What has been copied by many designers as motion furniture, the recliner has been with us in one form or another for more than two hundred years. Modeled after the chaise lounge, the long history of the recliner has seen this popular furniture range from simple to fully motorized. Thinking like an American invention, the recliner has its roots as far back as Napoleon.

In the period around eighteen fifty, the French introduced a camp bed behind one of those messages included Napoleon III. This camp bed was very functional for his time to serve multiple purposes. I thought to be modeled after sofa lounge, the camp cot served as a chair, a bed and chaise lounger. Well furnished for the times, the underlying camp bed was portable and functionality padded armrest and a steel frame. While Napoleon camp cot lacked a complex mechanism that not less than today recliner functional designs. The user can sit in an upright, leaning with the feet elevated or bed can be folded away to sleep.

At the end of eighteen hundred, a number of models for the movement created seats. Usually made of wood, with a padded seat and back, this early deck chairs may be more than a conversation piece of furniture staple fibers as a chair or sofa. Models from France and America often presented what was intended as a document or book holder.
Two American cousins, and Knabush Shoemaker, is credited with obtaining the patent on a wooden recliner. There was nothing remarkable about the design because it resembles a wooden beach recliner. The difference between these and other loungers was patent. Issued in duizendnegenhonderdachtëntwintig, the patent has led to the creation of LayZBoy. It was not until thirty thousand nine cousins that the patent would be a furnished model with a mechanical movement. It would not thousand nine forty-seven that a competing company would add a built-foot rest. The addition of a foot rest would be a standard part of recliner design.
Although the cousins were not the first to a piece of furniture lying motion, they were the first to a branding strategy for their product. Many other furniture companies began to produce and sell loungers very similar to using models for mechanisms. It was not long before other companies born to a variety of recliner mechanisms. From relatively simple to more complex models and power operated motor models, today loungers offer specialized solutions for the needs of the user.

Most deck chairs require the user to sit in the chair and to control the mechanism by pushing backwards, lifting or a lever to pull on a cable. Power lift deck chairs have the ability to literally rise up to meet the user. The development of the power lift is proved a blessing for people with limited mobility. Power deck chairs are usually provided with a sort of remote control which allows the user to control the movements chairs with the click of a button.
Behind the fabric, color and style, the idea of the recliner predates the era of mass production. After a lull in popularity in the seventies, the recliner has renewed an essential piece of living room furniture.
